The tense chambers of the United Nations Security Council are once again shaken to its core as the threat of a global nuclear disaster looms large. The calendar marks October 22nd, 1962 — a date that now stands etched in history. The covert placement of Soviet ballistic missiles on Cuban soil has triggered a standoff of unimaginable proportions between the two most daunting powers of the 20th century: the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
As Cold War tensions reach a flash point, this Council shall bear witness to a confrontation not merely of arms, but of ideologies, egos, and existential dread. This committee is no ordinary symposium — it is the last bunker of diplomacy before the unthinkable: nuclear annihilation.
Delegates shall step into the shoes of the most renowned statesmen and maneuver through manipulated intelligence, veiled threats, and treacherous alliances. With the eyes of the future upon them, they must navigate through an atmosphere of suspicion and urgency, balancing national pride with the dire necessity for global survival. Who will break first?
Will diplomacy triumph, or will the world plunge into irreversible extinction? The fate of millions rests not in silence, but in the words spoken within these walls. The question is no longer if the Council will act — but how.
Greetings Delegates,
In the hallowed halls where diplomacy veers on the brink of disaster, we gather today to confront one of the most perilous episodes of the 20th century : the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 which marked the peak of Cold War tensions and had the entire world in a standstill for the fear of an impending nuclear catastrophe.
The Cuban Missile Crisis remains a chilling testament to the volatility of Cold War politics and the razor-thin line between survival and annihilation. As delegates, you are called to intercept the motives, fears, and ambitions that shaped this thirteen-day standoff between the world’s two biggest powers. The question on everyone’s minds is - Who will break first?
Considering the critical timelines of this crisis, the freeze date for this committee is 22nd October, 1962.
The committee will be assisted by the Rapporteur, Devesh Beriwala. He is a 10th grader, with keen interest in MUNs, debates and global politics and also the Joint Secretary of the Young Entrepreneurs group. He dreams of ‘starting’ his own steel business one day.
Devesh Bazaz (yes with 2 Zs), an eleventh grader, will be serving as the Director of the committee. He is one of the most approachable EB members. He might look calm on the outside, but can surely prove his worth when you hand him a mic and give him the stage.
The Vice Chairperson for the committee shall be Harshvardhan Saraf. He is the school Vice Prefect and also served as the Executive Director for Bosco Empresarios 2025. Harsh may look to be very friendly but be rest assured that he can destroy a delegate with his rebuttals and attention to detail. Harsh has a nickname in the Secretariat which he is not very fond of.
I, Aryaman Saraogi, the School Savio House Captain, shall be serving as the Secretary General for this edition of Bosco MUN and the Chairperson for this committee.
