The International Press Corps (IPC) presents an opportunity for a high-level discussion on the media's role in war, censorship, and the recent rise of the security-intelligence threat, and we will make every attempt to explore the myriad injustices when journalists, their sources, and ordinary citizens confront oppression and violence around the globe. Ethical dilemmas faced by journalists operating in war-torn locales will also be investigated. Delegates will explore the complexities inherent in disinformation in the internet age, including the evolving constraints or pressures faced by journalists in various settings, as well as the prevalence of state-controlled media. Given the 'new' focus on fake news in a plethora of contexts, it raises the issues of media-making and the political manipulation of optics that are particularly relevant to the work being done by IPC delegates. The International Press Corps is assuredly not alone as journalists raise these and other difficult ethical challenges faced when practicing journalism under various forms of state suppression.
Greetings Delegates,
We are immensely excited to welcome you to the International Press Corps at Bosco MUN 2025, a committee at a time when free press and media integrity are in uncharted waters. In an era when topical issues take a backseat to political intrigue and silence is mitigated to reshape public opinion, the independence of journalism faces unprecedented challenges. This year, the IPC will be presenting the timely agenda, “Political Influence on Media Autonomy and the Strategic Omission of News through Selective Reporting,” where we will challenge notions of how truth is constructed, altered, and systematically buried to satisfy powerful stakeholders. Within this, correspondents will be tasked with covering the conference with neutrality, precision, and insight, working to ensure that, at best, the narrative is left untouched. Press freedom is no joke, having experienced the struggles of an IPC delegate, we can assure you, it’s not easy to gain either.
Let us now introduce you to the executive board of the International Press Corps.
Srijan, a 10th-grade student and the assistant captain of Savio House, brings with him an unwavering commitment to academic excellence and a meticulous approach to all responsibilities assigned to him. A dedicated student with an exceptional work ethic, he is known for his structured thinking and sincere involvement in all spheres of school life (definitely not trying to copy Mike Ross). As rapporteur, his attention to detail and composure under pressure will ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of this committee. Let's just hope no one asks him for a justification on why he thinks Donna is the best character in Suits.
Ayush Shah, serving as co-chairperson, is a 12th-grade student who adds balance and warmth to the executive board. While academics may not be his strongest suit (he is never seen in class), he is a passionate individual with a remarkable flair for theater and a profound appreciation for the cinematic arts. His calm temperament, receptiveness to diverse perspectives, and (non)commitment to maintaining decorum in the committee will be instrumental in fostering a constructive (or so he says) environment. A keen lover of open floors and POIs, Ayush shall ensure the committee remains fun and formal. He is the go-to person for any doubts. Just don't ask him to sing again. Please.
Darsh Agarwal, also serving as your co-chairperson, is a 12th-grade commerce student whose personality blends sharp intellect with unapologetic humor. A die-hard cricket enthusiast who watches everything from World Cups to obscure domestic leagues, he brings the same analytical eye to the committee as he does to a scoreboard. Known across circuits for his razor-sharp wit and legendary comebacks, Darsh’s speeches are laced with cerebral humor and backed by sound logic. His passion for MUNs runs deep, as does his loyalty toward his closest friends. While he may appear playful, don’t underestimate the depth of his arguments or the bite in his retorts; you’ve been warned.
As your Executive Board, we place the highest importance on journalistic integrity, critical analysis and unbiased reporting. While comprehensive research and a firm grasp of global developments are undoubtedly essential, their impact lies in how perceptively stories are framed and how effectively information is conveyed to readers. This guide is intended to serve only as the starting point for your work; please do not let it limit your curiosity or depth of inquiry.
