About the Committee

The African Union Peace and Security Council is at a point where the atmosphere is tense and tied by shackles of dictatorship where revolution is brewing on the hemispheres and the Arab world is pleading and urging with demands for change. Given that the Arab Spring has toppled long-standing authorities and Libya is embroiled in civil upheaval, the AUPSC needs to contend with one of the most volatile crises in North Africa. Delegates will find themselves navigating a complex and treacherous maze, one fraught with deep-rooted political turmoil, mounting demands for democratic reform, and the looming specter of civil war. As they traverse this volatile landscape, their decisions will not only determine the fate of a nation teetering on the brink of collapse but will also carry profound consequences for the broader regional order. The fragile threads of governance across the continent hang in the balance, as the ripple effects of their actions could either strengthen efforts toward stability and cooperation or plunge neighboring states into further unrest and fragmentation. The council must strike a balance amid national interest and pan-African unity, in addition to sovereignty as well as security obligations. Delegates require diplomatic skill, strategic acumen, and an acute understanding of African geopolitics as regional peace is at stake.

Chairpersons' Address

Chairperson

Greetings Delegates,

It is with immense pleasure and heartfelt warmth that we extend a sincere welcome to each and every one of you to what can undoubtedly be deemed as one of the most disorderly and challenging committees in this edition of Bosco Model United Nations the African Union Peace and Security Council.

As we gather here, we are acutely aware of the significance and gravity of this committee, for it delves into a period marked by turbulence. Our purpose, within the framework of this committee, is to transport delegates back in time, enabling them to engage in a simulation that vividly portrays the grassroots level crisis. Together, we will earnestly strive to craft viable and effective solutions through the timeless instrument of diplomacy. The Arab Spring, a wave of popular uprisings demanding freedom and democratic reforms, first ignited in Tunisia, quickly engulfed Libya and spread across borders. Libya, under the decades-long rule of Muammar Qaddafi, became the epicentre of one of the most violent and disruptive chapters of this movement. The rapid collapse of central authority, the emergence of militias, and the vacuum of governance that followed triggered an enduring conflict , one that has not only shaken Libya's internal stability but has also destabilized neighbouring states, threatened regional peace, and tested the very mandate of this Council.

Once again, We extend our heartfelt welcome, and we look forward to the remarkable contributions each of you will undoubtedly bring to this committee.

The freeze date for this committee will be 16th March, 2011.
You may reach out to us for any questions, concerns, or inquiries you may have. You can contact us through the designated gmail address, aupsc.boscomun@gmail.com, or personally connect with any of us.

In presiding over the committee we will be assisted by our Vice chairperson Nikunj S. Agarwal and our rapporteur Advait N. Aiyer. Nikunj is an eleventh grader with a keen interest in finance with the goal of being an entrepreneur in the future. He is (probably) one of the most approachable members of the executive board. Nikunj is known for asking sharp, disruptive questions that leave delegates rethinking their positions.
At the back end of the Executive board holding everything together, we have the rapporteur, a person who probably spends more time playing tennis rather than actually studying, Advait Navneet Aiyer. His love for physics and pure maths exceeds anyone’s expectation. It is his longstanding dream to become an astronaut by pursuing astrophysics at top schools like MIT. His love for MUNs and enthusiastic presence will definitely make this committee a lot more dynamic.

Gautam Bajaj an average twelfth grader with deep interest in Finance is the lead guitarist of the school band and having bagged the gold in almost every competition he has participated in, he is also sometimes termed as the ChatGPT expert in the entire Secretariat. From the most disruptive rebuttals to the most memorable speeches made by this Chairperson, be prepared for a committee where you will get no rest.

Shubham Sethia is a twelfth grader currently pursuing commerce stream, he has an avid interest in law and diplomacy aiming to pursue a career in law due to his obsession of getting into NLU and becoming the living embodiment of Harvey Specter. Shubham is the kind of person who can write a long, serious communiqué one minute and ditch it all to join you for momos the next minute.

So, Good Luck, Delegates. We hope to make the tenth edition of the Bosco Model United Nations conference a memorable one for you.

Until August,
Gautam Bajaj and Shubham Sethia,
Chairpersons of the African Union Peace and Security Council,
The Tenth Secretariat,
Bosco MUN 2025.
